The Montessori Method
Knockeevin Montessori Schools are proud practitioners of the Montessori Method for 30 years. The schools embrace the ideas and philosophies developed by Maria Montessori and have been privileged to see it actively enriching children’s lives. The Montessori Method offers each child the opportunity to reach their own potential at their own pace.
Through a graded programme, the child is introduced to the practical life, sensorial, cultural, language and mathematical materials
The Montessori Method offers each child the chance to reach his or her potential at what ever pace suits the child. Each child receives individual attention and presentations and then has the opportunity to practice and explore his or her new skills. The prepared environment offers a safe, child sized environment designed to meet the children’s needs. the shelves are all accessible to the children and the tables and chairs are all child sized. The material is clean and complete. The children are introduced to each new activity individually and are shown the cycle of work. (This means that the child takes the work from the shelf, completes it at his own pace and then returns it to the shelf when he is finished).Once the child is confident with the material, she/he can take it out independently.
Maria Montessori was a great advocate of nature and to this end we are incorporating a nature programme into our schools. You can read about it under our nature section.
